It was a collector’s dream come true from June 14 – 16 at the SM Megamall as one of the biggest toy conventions of the year covered the business hubs near one of the busiest shopping malls in the country with the hype and excitement coming from this year’s Hero Face-Off, a congregation of toy collectors, comic book fans, and cosplayers gathering together to celebrate a hobby that has become a unique but fun lifestyle choice for them.
Appropriately dubbed ”Hero Face-Off 2013,” the majority of the participants came into the event dressed as their favourite cartoon and comic book characters, giving life to some of the most popular superheroes and villains of our time. From Superman of DC Comics to John Snow of Game Of Thrones, all of the most followed luminaries in the genre were seen in living colour, adding more thrill to what has already become, in the words of comic book icon Stan Lee himself, a spine-tingling affair.
From stylish t-shirts to the famous limited edition Juan Dela Cruz bracelet dubbed simply as ”pamana,” fans of Coco Martin’s popular fantaserye were more than happy to satisfy their fandom of the half-tagabantay, half-aswang Filipino superhero, rivaling that of Iron Man’s fans and Batman’s creatures of the night.
Of course, the cosplay activity was one of the highlights of the three-day affair as some of the most well-known cosplayers in the industry were there to join in on the spectacle from Alodia Gosiengfiao to Cyen Lazam.
Boardwalk, being one of the trendsetters, not only in fashion and lifestyle, but also in the industry of direct-selling, will continue to push the envelope for Filipinos around the world, a hero that will serve as a shining beacon of hope for a better way of life.
